CREATIVE NEWS

MAYOR KIMBERLEY DRISCOLL AND THE SALEM PUBLIC ART COMMISSION (PAC) ANNOUNCE “TRADEWIND,” A PUBLIC ART INSTALLATION IN DERBY SQUARE, RUNNING JULY THROUGH SEPTEMBER, 2016.

“Salem has such a rich and important historic connection to the sea,” said Mayor Driscoll. “The concept for ‘TradeWind’ pays creative homage to that connection in a way that is playful, thoughtful, and expressive. I greatly look forward to the work’s installation near Old Town Hall and the continuation of our highly successful public art installation program.”

8:30pm

On Thursday, July 14 at 8:30 pm, CinemaSalem will be presenting a top-secret comedy event, open only to the public, for just one night.

Popular and legendary national comedian Tony V is creating a television program (although it’s top secret – so please don’t tell anyone, okay?), and we’ve obtained some footage. On July 14 (unrelated to Bastille Day), we’ll be presenting Tony V live on stage, along with Dave Rattigan and Chris Pennie. But the super secret thing is we’ll also be screening some clips from the upcoming comedy television show, code-named Tony V’s Project X, which no one has ever seen before.

8:30pm

Soap & Rope Theater Company presents a new, original comedy theatre event: You Have Died of Dysentery! presented at CinemaSalem on Thursday, July 21 at 8:30 pm. This hilarious evening of entertainment features an interactive and nostalgic return journey along The Oregon Trail, and will be especially enjoyable for the thousands of students who travelled the trail on school computers between 1980 and 2005. It may also be must-see theatre for their computer class teachers, their parents, and people too young or too old to fit into the “Trail Generation”.

MERCURY’S ASHES @ SALEM THEATRE

Live Show

July 14-16

TICKETS

STC is honored to have the opportunity to bring this powerful and timely piece to the stage this summer for three nights only.

Before Queen’s frontman, Freddie Mercury, passed away of AIDS in 1991, he asked that the location of his ashes be kept a secret from the world. Guided by the gravity of fandom, one man believes he has found the remains of the fallen Star that have eluded fans for over twenty years. Inspired by real events, Mercury’s Ashes shares how the weight of his discovery alters
the orbit of a man’s life and irreversibly binds him to the greatest performer of the 20th Century.
