SALEM ARTS FESTIVAL – JUNE 3-5, 2016 ART SHOW, LIVE PERFORMANCES, AND STREET FAIR TO LIGHT UP HISTORIC SALEM

The 8th annual Salem Arts Festival will be held June 3-5th.  The popular free event will feature over 80 artists and performers, and includes a variety of art, music, dance, and theatre performances. The family-friendly festival also includes art-making for all ages, artisan vendors selling their creations, and a temporary public art installation.

You stand a little looser, breathe a little deeper, and slow down a bit more.  And that’s no accident – owner Erica Kirwan has worked hard to make sure her own “little slice of heaven” on Pickering Wharf inspires a sense of positivity and relaxation. Celebrating its two year anniversary this week, many people are still discovering what makes Ocean Chic so special.

When I see my friends posting about how they are getting all of these brilliant opportunities, like how one of my friends is taking a cross country road trip to meet with publishers and publish his book of art, or another friend has been accepted to yet another gallery show (except that this time it’s solo), or someone else I know recently got hired by a certain arts and nerd core culture magazine based out of Los Angeles, I sometimes get a little discouraged.

RODIN LANDS AT PEABODY ESSEX MUSEUM – PHOTO GALLERY

The Peabody Essex Museum has brought in no shortage of exceptional exhibits over the past few months. From the extraordinary kinetic sculptures in Strandbeest: The Dream Machines of Theo Jansen, to the nostalgia-inducing American Epics: Thomas Hart Benton and Hollywood, to the evocative Native American fashion exhibit Native Fashion Now, the PEM continues to impress. 

This month, the Peabody Essex Museum is introducing Rodin: Transforming Sculpture showcasing one of the world’s most iconic and avant-garde sculptors, French artist Auguste Rodin. In addition to the display of Rodin’s pieces themselves, the exhibition will also feature ongoing performances from the Peabody, MA-based Bosoma Dance Company.

CINEMA SALEM TO CELEBRATE 10TH ANNIVERSARY WITH FREE MOVIE AND CONCERT

Now CinemaSalem will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary with a customer appreciation event on Thursday, June 2, with another free screening of The Wizard of Oz (Passes can be picked up at the box office and it is 4 passes max per person.) as well as free concert featuring a collection of emerging regional artists performing film-oriented tunes. The screening of the film classic will begin at 8:15 and the free concert will kick off at 8:30.
