Established in Boston in 2007, the New England String Quartet is dedicated to expanding the contemporary chamber music tradition through performances,recordings, educational activities and community outreach projects. The ensemble seeks to develop collaborations with contemporary composers, soloists and other ensembles. Having made their debut at Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, the ensemble is featured in concert series across New England including 3rd Sundays @ 3, Menotomy, Bach’s Lunch, Parma Music Festival, and the Chromatic Club of Boston.

The quartet’s discography includes “Quadrants: Modern String Quartets” (2012, Navona Records), “Perceptions: Points of View for Small Ensemble” (2013, Navona Records), “Allusions” (2013, Navona Records), “Unbridled – Chamber Works by Sergio Cervetti” (2014, Navona Records), “Sarah Wallin Huff: Soul of the Machine” (Navona Records), "Scott Pender: 88+12" (Navona Records), “Darkness to Light – The Music of Jeffrey Jacob” (Navona Records). The quartet also collaborates with popular music, soundtrack, and video game producers. Nikolai Klavier, composer

Nikolai Clavier is a composer and a viola player from Norway. In 2013 he received his performance degree from the Barratt Due Music Institute in Oslo, and is studying composition with Konrad Ørn at the University of Agder. Ben Houge, composer

Ben Houge (rhymes with “vogue”) is an internationally active American artist operating at the nexus of music composition, video games, performance, sound installation, and digital art. Since relocating from Shanghai to the Boston area in 2010, his projects have included a six-channel sound installation based on live subway sounds, algorithmic choral music, and a real-time video piece visualizing data from the Boston Harbor Islands. Recent work has been presented in collaboration with groups such as Boston Cyberarts, Non-event, Eyebeam in New York, Studio Z in Saint Paul, Chapel Performance Space in Seattle, and the San Diego Museum of Art. In 2012, he was a visiting artist at MIT, working with the Media Lab’s Responsive Environments group on the sonification of real-time data from ubiquitous sensor networks. Ben has been developing audio for video games since 1996, and he has contributed to titles including King’s Quest: Mask of Eternity, Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love for Sail!, several Half-Life games, and Arcanum: Of Steamworks & Magick Obscura, for which he composed a string quartet soundtrack recently ranked in Forbes as one of the 12 best video game soundtracks of all time. www.benhouge.com
