Joey Nicotera – Retonica Lighting Design

1) Tell us a bit about you and what you do?

We design lighting experiences for events of all types. We use lighting and light design to enhance communities and bring people together. Creative lighting design can unite, add security, open untapped resources and locations and more.

2) What do you love the most about (your business)?

What I love the most is that no two days are the same.  Just when I think we have done it all we have a client come along and totally shake things up on us.

3) How does (your business) contribute to the the Creative Economy?

We try to find a sweet spot between the big production houses that cater to the corporate clients and instead aim for doing the more artistic projects.

4) What’s your favorite part of (your business)?

My favorite part is that what we do makes people happy.  I can’t tell you how many hugs, smiles, and happy tears we’ve been a part of just because we are doing our jobs.  Lighting is magic, and we get to make that magic for people.

5) What’s the one thing people wouldn’t know about you or (your business)?

I think I’ve answered this before, but despite the amount of work we do, I still have a full-time day job as an IT Manager.  At 5pm most days, I get to become a different person, and I really enjoy the juxtaposition.

The lights will stay on at Lynn’s High Rock Tower thanks to a crowdfunding campaign – Itemlive

LYNN – When Kim Hopkins worked directly with youth and families, she made one thing perfectly clear: “Don’t ever bring kids to High Rock park after dusk. It’s not safe.” She was not the only one who felt that way.
